About the Author and Illustrator
Erica Joy Huggins is a storyteller, illustrator, and an elementary educator who believes every child is a bright, shining star with a special place in this big, beautiful world. Growing up in Union, New Jersey, Erica often wondered where she belonged—was it with her friends, at school, in her career, or even in her walk with Christ? Over time, she discovered that the answers to life’s biggest questions are sprinkled throughout the love of family, the magic of friendship, the triumphs of marriage, and the gentle whispers of faith.
Now known as Mrs. Huggins to her students, Erica has been on a mission, over the past decade, to help kids discover their own sparkle and see that they are wonderfully made. Her stories and illustrations are inspired by her adventures navigating life’s twists and turns—figuring out friendships, discovering herself with family, and learning to trust God’s perfect plan, even when it’s full of surprises.
As an illustrator, Erica is passionate about celebrating her Filipino culture, something she rarely saw represented in books and media while growing up in the East Coast of America. Through her art, she hopes to share the vibrant traditions, stories, and values of her heritage, creating a world where every child feels seen, valued, and proud of who they are.
When she’s not writing, illustrating, or teaching, you might find Erica exploring with her husband on one of their many adventures, cuddling with their wrinkly fur baby, Zoe, or soaking in the sunshine of life with loved ones, and diving into the Word of God. She loves seeing the world through the curious and creative eyes of children.
Through her books, Erica hopes to remind kids everywhere that they are deeply loved, that kindness has the power to change the world, and that even when the days feel dark, there’s always a little light waiting to be found.
